Description
The Vermaent Resurfacing and Brush Seater Stone for Commutator Grinding is a specialised product developed for the maintenance of traction motor commutators in diesel-electric locomotives. Commutator surfaces must be kept smooth, round, and free of carbon tracking to ensure efficient current transfer between commutator bars and carbon brushes.
These stones are used to remove surface irregularities, high spots, and oxidation from commutator surfaces, and also to seat new carbon brushes to the commutator’s curvature — a process known as brush seating. Proper seating maximises brush contact area, reduces arcing, and extends the service life of both brushes and commutator. Vermaent stones are formulated for compatibility with all major locomotive traction motor commutators.
